KGE Bassoon Reed

ideal reed for beginners and dispatched very quickly

Both reeds seem to leak air slightly around the crook, and are hard work to play. May be able to scrape them to get freer playing but the leak adds an irritating “fizz” to the sound which I haven’t found a way to improve.

The KGE bassoon reed makes for really smooth playing. It have used it for a couple of days now - will it turn out too smooth on the longer term? However, for now it is a sheer delight.

My son thinks the reeds have a warm tone and are suitable for students and beyond.

The KGE reed I recently bought from Crook & Staple is excellent. Nice smooth finish easy on tired lips! Played easily after a brief soak with good dynamic range - really useful as I play band and orchestral music and the requirements can be quite different. I'm about to order more of the same!

Following your recommendation for reeds for a Schreiber bassoon I bought a KGE reed from you. Thank you for your recommendation and the prompt delivery. I had to go to orchestra practice without having tried the reed at home and it only got the briefest of soakings. But it worked! I found it easy to blow and, as I play second bassoon most of the time, I was pleased to find how responsive it was on the lower notes. I also bought one of your own reeds which I have not tried yet. It will be interesting to see how they compare.
